Overview

Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda – Kibale Forest National Park is one of Uganda’s most beautiful national parks, featuring diverse tracts of tropical rain forest and a variety of wildlife. The park has 795 square kilometers of rain forest, wetlands, rivers, and a few patches of grassland. It is home to about 1,450 chimps who are protected within the park, as well as thirteen other primate species. Children must be 15 years old or older to monitor Chimpanzees; children under 15 years old can participate in an educational forest walk.

This three-day chimp trekking safari will take you on a chimp walk through Kibale Forest. Trekking chances are available twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon. You are only permitted to stay with the chimps for one hour after finding them.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park

Leave Kampala for chimp trekking in Kibale National Park. Your driving guide will get you from the airport or hotel and transport you to your resort. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery, quaint residences, and sights of several spectacular bird species as you drive through the countryside. Make a lunch break at Fort Portal Town, Uganda’s tourism center due to its magnificent scenery and attractions. You will arrive at your overnight hotel in the Crater Lakes region.

Alternatively, you may fly to Kasese airfield, where you will be met and taken to the resort.

Day 2: Chimpanzees trekking  in Kibale national park

After breakfast, your driver guide will transport you to the briefing area, where he will give in your information and permissions for registration and chimp community assignment to trek. You will then be assigned to a chimp group, and your ranger guide will accompany you on a walk to find this giant primate. Watch the chimps in their natural habitat as they hang from the canopy branches high above the forest floor, feeding, playing, and resting.

Explore Bigodi village in the afternoon. You will get the opportunity to see a swamp with numerous insects, plants, animals, and stunning birds such as the Great Blue Turaco, which will be of particular interest to birders. Following this experience, you will go on a village stroll to the Coffee experience, banana bear making, busked making, and traditional healer.

Day 3: End of the Uganda chimpanzee trekking tour

We hope you had a good time in Uganda’s countryside and saw the Chimpanzees in their natural habitat. After breakfast, your driver guide will bring you to Entebbe International Airport or to the airstrip for your return journey.
