Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Gorilla trekking is a popular safari activity in Uganda. It has been noted that the number of mountain gorillas has expanded as a result of numerous non-governmental and government conservation efforts. These locations are safe for both visitors and gorillas, with few or no poaching incidents reported as a result of alternate forms of money accessible to locals in the area as a result of increased earnings from gorilla tourism.

The difficulty level of gorilla trekking is moderate. Travellers must be physically active and prepared to walk and hike for hours across rugged terrain, which can take up to 8 hours depending on where the gorilla groups are located. Mountain gorillas are frequently spotted in the forest, grazing on plants while resting or grooming one other. Each gorilla family or group is led by a silverback, who is very protective of the family and will grunt and beat its breast before fleeing with the females, young, and adult males.

To really appreciate the experience of gorilla trekking, you must thoroughly prepare, beginning with the selection of a tour operator to arrange the complete safari, accommodations, and the purchase of gorilla permits. Trekking gorillas must be at least 15 years old. Because only 8 people can hike a gorilla family every day, you must obtain your permission well in advance, especially if you desire a certain day.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park provide gorilla trekking. There are now 21 gorilla families accessible for trekking in Uganda. Because of the nature of the environment, hiking in Bwindi differs somewhat from that in Mgahinga. Bwindi is a rain forest with dense vegetation and a varied environment; your trek will include both uphill and downhill sections. Bwindi is separated into sections, each with a distinct number of gorilla families. Because the site is somewhat far away, it is vital to know which section you will track before booking your accommodation. Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga are the sectors.

The gorillas in Mgahinga gorilla national park are mostly found in the mid vegetation on the Virunga mountains, particularly in the open parts of the bamboo zone.
